Sleeker, Faster and More Technologically-Advanced – New Ford Mustang
Ford unveiled the new Ford Mustang for Europe, a model that arrives with a sharper, more athletic appearance thanks to sleek new styling. This iteration also boasts sophisticated engine and suspension upgrades, advanced driver assistance technologies, and enhanced customisation options for the iconic sports car. Anticipated to be the fastest accelerating Mustang yet, its enhanced 5.0-litre V8 engine is expected to deliver 450 PS, paired with Ford’s new 10-speed automatic transmission. Tuned to European driving preferences, the Mustang’s engaging character is further refined with sophisticated new MagneRide adjustable suspension and selectable Drive Modes, including a new customizable My Mode option. An innovative Good Neighbour Mode on the Active Valve Performance Exhaust system offers a considerate solution for early-morning or late-night driving.
The Mustang’s exterior presents a more streamlined, dynamic profile while retaining the unmistakable character forged over more than 50 years. The bonnet is now lower, featuring integrated air vents and a revised lower grille, lending the Mustang a more aggressive stance and improved aerodynamics. At the rear, a redesigned bumper and diffuser element complement the standard quad-tailpipes of the 5.0-litre V8, underscoring its potent performance. Further enhancing its visual appeal, the Mustang is now available with an optional boot spoiler for an even sportier silhouette. As standard across European models, the Mustang’s lighting – headlights, daytime running lights, indicators, and iconic three-bar tail lights – all feature crisp, energy-efficient LED technology, with LED foglights also an option. The front headlight bezels have been restyled to echo the trapezoidal shape of the upper grille.
A wider array of customisation choices allows European Mustang customers to express their individuality. Three new vibrant metallic paint options are on offer: Kona Blue, Orange Fury, and Royal Crimson. Complementing these are new 19-inch forged alloy wheels, available in multiple finishes including Nickel, Ebony Black, and Polished Aluminium, each offering a distinct character.

Inside, the cabin delivers an elevated sense of quality. Soft-touch materials wrap the door linings, complemented by aluminium door handles and a hand-stitched centre console finished with contrasting accent stitching. The instrument panel surround can be specified in one of four distinct aluminium finishes. For those seeking an extra touch of distinction, a Carbon Sport interior package introduces Alcantara seat and door inserts alongside a carbon-fibre instrument panel finish and gear knob.
Comfort and ergonomics take a significant step forward with the introduction of heated and cooled leather seats and a heated steering wheel across the lineup for the first time. Customers choosing the Recaro racing seats can select from three dedicated hues: Show Stopper Red, Midnight Blue, and Ebony. Steven Armstrong, group vice president and president for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Ford Motor Company, remarked on the continent’s reception: “Europe’s passion for Mustang has proven even greater than we imagined – almost 30,000 Mustangs are already bringing one of the most iconic sights in motoring to the continent’s streets. There are few cars on the road that can deliver such a combination of heritage, style and performance to such a wide audience. The new Ford Mustang offers the most compelling package yet.”

Under the bonnet, the mechanical enhancements match the visual dynamism. The legendary 5.0-litre V8 engine has been thoroughly re-engineered, receiving Ford’s dual-fuel high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port fuel injection setup. This dual-injection architecture unlocks higher rev limits and increased low-end torque, bringing anticipated peak output to 450 PS. Meanwhile, the entry powerplant – the 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder – produces 290 PS and gains a transient overboost function that supplies a momentary surge of turbo pressure following each upshift, ensuring relentless pull through the gears.
Transmission duties are handled by either an improved six-speed manual featuring a twin-disc clutch and dual-mass flywheel for enhanced durability, or the newly developed 10-speed automatic gearbox. Engineered with real-time adaptive shift-scheduling, the 10-speed automatic selects optimal ratios instantaneously across diverse driving environments, from relaxed coastal cruising to aggressive standing starts. Steering-wheel-mounted magnesium paddle shifters give the driver direct manual control over gear selection when desired.

Chief programme engineer Matthias Tonn elaborated on the engineering goals: “Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time. The Mustang’s new 10-speed transmission enables the engine to deliver peak power and torque while up-shifting, for faster acceleration and seamless performance. We expect the result to be our fastest accelerating Ford Mustang yet.”
Chassis dynamics receive an equally rigorous overhaul. Ford engineers recalibrated the shock absorbers, stiffened the rear suspension with a cross-axis joint to curb lateral body flex, and fitted thicker anti-roll bars to maintain flat cornering posture. For ultimate composure, buyers can specify the MagneRide Damping System. This electronically controlled setup uses a magnetorheological fluid that alters its viscosity within milliseconds when stimulated by electrical currents. Sensors monitor road conditions a thousand times every second, adjusting damping rates instantaneously to match surface irregularities and driving demands.

Driver engagement is further tailored through an expanded suite of selectable Drive Modes. Alongside Normal, Sport, Track, and Snow/Wet modes, the new Mustang introduces Drag Strip Mode for optimum quarter-mile performance and My Mode, which allows drivers to store custom parameter combinations for steering weight, throttle response, stability control thresholds, and exhaust volume.
The Active Valve Performance Exhaust introduces an acoustic dimension previously unavailable in European specification models. By altering internal valve geometry, drivers can dial in a subdued idle or an uninhibited V8 roar. Crucially for urban residents, the system features a programmable Good Neighbour Mode, automatically scheduling quieter exhaust profiles during designated morning or evening hours to avoid disturbing the peace.

Electronic driver aids are also significantly upgraded. Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection joins the specification sheet, alongside Adaptive Cruise Control, Distance Alert, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keeping Aid. These active safety systems not only safeguard occupants but also contribute directly to an enhanced Euro NCAP safety appraisal.
Inside the cockpit, a fully customisable 12-inch digital instrument cluster takes pride of place, offering graphic layouts that adapt dynamically to the chosen Drive Mode. Drivers can toggle through multiple gauge styles and colour palettes. When activating the Electronic Line Lock feature – which locks the front brakes while permitting rear wheel-spin to warm up tyres prior to track runs – the display treats the driver to an exclusive video-game-inspired graphical animation.

Infotainment requirements are met by Ford’s SYNC 3 interface, operated via an 8-inch central touchscreen supporting pinch-and-swipe gestures as well as natural voice commands. Complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, the system ensures seamless connectivity for all occupants.
